Quilting Activity Resource Kit
This kit comes with everything you need to hand sew a simple quilt block from rectangles and squares of felt. QUARK was created to help teach 4th through 6th graders principles of math such as: fractions, scale, multiplication, and measurement. The kit also facilitates discussion of art fundamentals such as: pattern, composition, layout, color, and more. However, this kit is great for beginners and intermediate sewing enthusiasts alike! Our colorful instructions take you step by step through the process.
Following the principles of social entrepreneurship, when you purchase a QUARK, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op will donate one to a Birmingham-area school child.
QUARK was tested among 105 Birmingham-area students as an enrichment activity during the 2017 SAIL (Summer Adventures In Learning) summer camp program. Five SAIL-funded sites received free QUARKs and instruction thanks to a small SAIL grant. Boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 participated in the activity. Pre- and post-activity surveys were administered to gauge the activity's success rate in one mathematical area and one art area.
Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is raising funds now to offer twice the number of QUARK sessions during the 2018 summer camp season. To schedule a QUARK session, learn more about the program or contribute to the costs of the 2018 season, please email Viola Ratcliffe: firstname.lastname@example.org.
