SEW-OP ORIENTATION
Welcome to Bib & Tucker Sew-Op! We are looking forward to meeting you and working with you soon. Many people ask who this orientation is for. It is for people who have never been to the Sew-Op but want to learn more. It is for people who would like to regularly attend Tuesday sessions. And, it is for people who feel they could use a refresher about Sew-Op rules and guidelines. Please bring your $5 orientation fee (check: Bib & Tucker Sew-Op; cash and credit accepted)

HAND SEWING

SEW ADDICTED: A Crash Course in Addictive Hand-Sewing Techniques
In this 3-hr workshop, you'll learn a bevy of techniques and processes that will jumpstart your creativity. Supplies will be provided and explained to help you keep your new hobby affordable until you're ready to spend big bucks on the tools of the trade. Instructor Lillis Taylor has led stitching workshops around the world, around the country and all around Birmingham. No beginner is too green. If you're an artist this workshop will give you a new medium and if you're a closet crafter, you'll be right at home.​

FIBER ARTS

TEXTILE DESIGN

In this two-part class, you will learn how to turn a simple watercolor sketch into a unique textile design. During the first class, each participant will make a couple of sketches and will observe instructor Lillis Taylor demonstrate several techniques for prepping images. Before leaving, each participant will have one design that will be prepped for digital printing. During the second class, participants will turn their unique textile into a zippered pouch or zippered pillow. The cost of this class includes the purchase of one digitally printed fat quarter from Spoonflower.com. Participants wanting to order more than a fat quarter, will need to pay extra.

QUILTING

BEGINNING QUILTING: Piecing
In this 3-hr workshop, you'll learn about cutting, measuring and sewing quilt blocks together, also known as "piecing". The focus of this class will be "nesting" your seams when sewing a "9-patch" block and making "half-square triangles" fondly known as HSTs. You will leave with two or three finished blocks, which you can use as the beginning of a sampler quilt.  Supplies will be provided and explained to help you keep your new hobby affordable until you're ready to spend big bucks on the tools of the trade. If you're a novice at quilting, this workshop is for you. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? ​

BEGINNING QUILTING: Paper-Piecing
In this 3-hr workshop, you'll learn how to master perfect corners and points through paper-piecing. Don't know what paper-piecing is? You'll be addicted to the complicated designs made easy with this technique. You will leave with two or three blocks started, which you can use as the beginning of a sampler quilt.  Supplies will be provided and explained to help you keep your new hobby affordable until you're ready to spend big bucks on the tools of the trade. If you're a novice at quilting, this workshop is for you. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class?

BEGINNING QUILTING: Free-motion quilting
In this 2-hr workshop, you'll learn how to draw with your sewing machine! All you need is a darning foot and the ability to drop your feed dogs. Don't know what this means? Register for this class and you'll find out! You will leave with two or three samples, which you can use as the beginning of a "quilt as you go" quilt. If you're a novice at quilting, this workshop is for you. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide all materials needed for this workshop.

BEGINNING QUILTING: Appliqué
During this 2-hr workshop, you'll learn how to stabilize elements of an appliqué design and how to adjust your machine in order to effectively zig-zag or satin-stitch around each element of the design. You'll also be introduced to samples of hand-appliqué to get a sense of the strong differences in technique. If you're a novice at quilting and fiber art, this workshop is for you. Machine-appliqué will open up a world of possibilities. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide all materials needed for this workshop.

GENERAL MACHINE SEWING

HOW DOES THIS THING WORK?! A Guide to Using, Maintaining and Loving Your Sewing Machine
So someone gave you a sewing machine and you still haven't mastered it? Join us for a three hour love-fest where you will get familiar with your machine and how it works. Doesn't matter the model, the make or the year...we will figure it out together and will sew a thing or two to boot! This workshop is perfect for anyone who needs the basics to get started. Patience will be your friend. Don't have a machine but want to learn to use one before you make the purchase? You can take this class too! The Sew-Op will provide all materials needed for this workshop. No beginner is too green.

BOW-TIE CLASS with Plumb Square Goods, Co.
Sew-Op member Jerry Griffies, founder of Plumb Square Goods, Co. breaks down the science of the bow-tie in this class. If you plan on machine-sewing your bow-tie, prior experience is a prerequisite, but Jerry will show you how to do it by hand as well. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide a machine and additional supplies are needed for this class. A list will be provided a week or two prior and you may elect to purchase your own supplies or use ones provided by the Sew-Op for an additional fee, to be paid the night of the first class.

PILLOWS
In this two-part class, Sew-Op member Barbara Willingham will take you on a throw pillow journey! You'll learn how to make covers with and without zippers and you'll even delve into cording and trim! Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. 
Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide a machine and additional supplies are needed for this class. A list will be provided a week or two prior and you may elect to purchase your own supplies or use ones provided by the Sew-Op for an additional fee, to be paid the night of the first class.

Join Sew-Op member, Heather Hood in making PJ pants. Not only will you leave the session with a pair of custom-made pants, you will also be able to pick Heather's brain about practical garment hacks that are beginner-friendly. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide a machine for this workshop. Additional supplies are needed for this class.

Join Sew-Op member, Heather Hood for a class that will demystify a basic pattern and give you the tools to approach other patterns with more confidence. You will also be able to pick Heather's brain about practical garment hacks that are beginner-friendly. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide a machine for this workshop. Additional supplies are needed for this class.

SEWFULLY SYMBOLIC GARMENT PATCHES
Join Sew-Op member, Michelle Reynolds for a class that will have you embellishing your clothes and accessories with one-of-a-kind patches of your favorite symbols. Michelle rarely draws anything first and it is amazing to watch her go from the concept in her brain to cutting and composing. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. Don't have a machine but want to take this class? The Sew-Op will provide a machine for this workshop. Additional supplies may be needed for this class.

URBAN RETREAT

QUILTED WALL-HANGING
Spend two days piecing, quilting and binding a wall-hanging during an urban retreat at Bib & Tucker Sew-Op. Supplies will be provided and explained to help you keep your new hobby affordable until you're ready to spend big bucks on the tools of the trade. Instructor Lillis Taylor has led sewing workshops around the world, around the country and all around Birmingham. If you're a novice at quilting, this workshop is for you. Prior sewing experience is a prerequisite. We will take an hour for lunch from 12-1PM - you may bring a lunch or dine at one of the Sew-Op's fabulous neighborhood eateries.
