What do you make?

I make custom clothing and bedding. I also make alterations and craft projects. Now I am also enjoying quilting.

What do you like to sew?

I like to sew. I have sewn wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, bed duvets, dust ruffles, draperies, men’s suits as well as pillow cushions. I try to enjoy making whatever I am working on at the time.

What do you do when you’re not at Bib & Tucker?

I also love to garden. I have numerous indoor and outdoor plants that always need attention. I’m excited about the vegetables I’ve planted this year. Since I enjoy learning, I watch a lot of videos on the internet.

What does Bib & Tucker mean to you?

I also enjoy teaching sewing. Being at Bib & Tucker gives me the opportunity to help people get in touch with their creative side and hopefully get to enjoy sewing as much as I have.

Who inspired you to start sewing? When did you start?

Both of my grandmothers were quilters. My mother presently quilts and crochets. I started sewing in high school and continued with a BS degree from Tuskegee University in Clothing and Related Arts. I operate a custom sewing business from my home and I’ve taught sewing classes over the years. I want to continue to teach.

Where are you from?

I was born and grew up in Birmingham, Al., in Woodlawn.

What is your favorite thing about Woodlawn?

Since I grew up in Woodlawn, I remember how Woodlawn was years ago and I want to be a part of its revitalization.

What is your favorite color? Why?

I tend to lean toward blues, but since I’m a fabric-holic, I like all colors.

What school did you go to? What was your favorite subject or who was your favorite teacher?

I attended C. W. Hayes High School here in Birmingham. I had several teachers that I loved, but I guess my favorite was Mrs. Jennings who encouraged me to continue sewing. In college, my favorite teacher was my major professor who told me I was gifted and allowed me to sew for his wife. He continues to recommend me for jobs.

What is a story (try to be nice) that you can tell about another member?

I don’t really know a lot about the members, but one member is my sister and she loves to sew as much as I do. We have another member, Dianne who kept coming even though she’d never sewn before and she expressed a true desire to learn to sew, but she didn’t have a sewing machine, so I let her use one of mine. She have made some beautiful quilt squares, so I’m really proud of her.

What is something you want to tell the other members about yourself, our community?

I hope the other members know that I am there to help them and if they have any sewing problems or questions, I want to help them. Sewing has been very good for me and I want them to enjoy it as much as I do. I also want them to know that Woodlawn is a great place and to encourage other people to join us.
