Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is Birmingham’s hub for sewing activities that promote empowerment, engagement, and economic opportunity. Our mission is to cultivate skills for those who sew or want to sew (ages 9-99) where everyone can be both a teacher and a student. Bib & Tucker Sew-Op has developed a line of products that teaches the fundamentals of math through the principles of art. Our QUARK (Quilting Activity Resource Kit) is a hand-sewing kit that focuses on core curriculum math standards as outlined by the Alabama Department of Education and located on the Alabama Learning Exchange website.

In June 2017 and 2018 QUARK was tested among nearly 300 Birmingham-area summer camp students ranging in ages from 6 to 16. QUARK sessions were held at facilities such as Girls Inc, Camp Fire, Birmingham City Library branches, and city recreation centers. In 2019, Bib & Tucker will facilitate QUARK sessions from July 8th through July 19th. We are seeking a college-level intern to strengthen content; facilitate QUARK sessions; and evaluate and document this program. This 10-week internship will provide a $1,500 stipend and will take place during June, July and the first two weeks of August. First day of internship will be June 3rd, but the chosen intern may be required to meet prior to this date.

-Be a registered undergraduate or graduate at a college or university; preference will be given to students majoring in Art or Education, with a specialization in math
